So this is a mockup of a plush…”Homestuck Salamander”? I’ve never read Homestuck, and no challenge to do this was officially issued, but I’m bored.
If you’re unfamiliar with the process of soft sculpting, this is like a sketch. I drew pieces and basted (a method of temporarily sewing things together) them so I could see what it looks like. From here I’ll tweak it, then I’ll take it apart and make a pattern from the pieces.
You might be able to see that I’ve already put a pin in the back; I started the gusset too low, and it made the shape of the back of the head really awful. Besides that, these are the things I’m wondering about, from both an accuracy standpoint and a making it cute in general perspective…
- Should the tail be bigger?
- Should the head be wider?
- Are the legs too skinny?
- What’s wrong with the front of the face in general?
OH MY GOD.
OH MY GOD IT’S HAPPENING. WHERE’S ED. ED, GET IN HERE.
I’ll go on a point-by-point thing.
- Tail looks fine.
- Maybe a bit wider for the head? It’s supposed to be a bit oval-shaped I think but that may just be the way that it’s drawn and that this is the closest way that it can translate to real life.
- Legs look good!
- I mean the only thing that’s weird with the head (and this may be out of your control) is that the eyes are kinda supposed to be almost sticking out, like tiny round antennae if I had to describe them in some other way. The salamander’s eyes are beady.
But oh man I can’t believe you actually made this happen. A+ for you.
Ed now that I know that you’re online LOOK AT THIS.
WHERE DOING THIS
WHERE MAKING IT HAPEN
Yeah what Lloyd said are all the right points. I kind of feel like his face should be a little wider at the front, and bulbous eyes are a must.
